When you drag and drop any files from one location to another, sometimes it will be copy or sometime it will be moved. To know when it perform copy operation and move operation, here are the answers,

If a file is moved from one drive to another drive, the operation is Copy.

If you drag and drop files, it is also Copy operation.

Move operation is executed, when a file is moved from one location to another within the same drive.

To avoid this default behavior, you can use shift key when you drag and drop files to perform either copy or move operation.

To create a shortcut for drag and drop operation, hold ctrl+shift key, shortcut will be created in destination folder.

For copy operation, + icon is displayed.

For Move operation, –> icon is displayed.
