AuditPol is inbuilt feature in windows 7 which is used to control and audit sub-category policy settings accurately.
It is located in system 32 folder, as AuditPol.exe, to enable this feature,
Go to local security policy – local policies – security options,

AuditPol has several functions such as,
Set and query a system audit policy.
Set and query a per-user audit policy.
Set and query auditing options.
Set and query the security descriptor used to delegate access to an audit policy.
Report or back up an audit policy to a comma-separated value (CSV) text file.
Load an audit policy from a CSV text file.
Configure global resource SACLs.
In command prompt, you can use AuditPol to view defined auditing settings by typing auditpol/get/category and enter.

Sometimes when your system is turned off due to power failure or any virus attacks, you will restart your system by booting in safe mode.
But sometimes, the safe mode option will be in problem. Here are some ways to fix safe mode in windows 7,
1.Try a System Restore to a prior good point when Safe Mode was working and see if it helps.
2.Type scf/scannow in command prompt and enter to run system file checker. It will help you to fix safe mode.
3.Using windows installation disk, run repair install of windows and restart.
4.Type msconfig in start to open system configuration utility. In system configuration, in boot tab enable safe mode in minimal and click apply and Ok.

There is also a freeware to fix safe mode booting, Safe mode Fixer

Sometimes we may forgot our user account password, and without knowing the password you cannot do anything in windows. But there is way to reset your password using USB flash drive in windows 7. Using this utility when you forgot your password, you can reset the password using this USB flash drive and create a new password to enter.
To create a Password reset using USB flash drive,
Go to control panel – user accounts – make changes on your user accounts – on right side of the window click ‘create a password reset disk’.

It will take you to Forgotten password wizard,

Click next and select the USB drive in which you want to create reset password disk,

Click next to proceed to create password reset disk,

Once it is successfully created, you will be safe!
So, next time when you forgot your password, under the password tab you can see an option to reset password.Click on it!

Click next and insert the USB flash drive you have created the reset password disk.


Now type in the new password to enter.

Type in the new password and continue your works!

You can restrict others to use only the programs which you specifiy using windows group policy editor.
To do that, Open start – type gpedit.msc – group policy editor.

In Group policy editor – user configuration – system – double click run only specified window applications.

Enable it and click show to show you the list of allowed programs.
You can also enter any programs to include by typing in blank tab. If you want to include firefox, then you can type firefox.exe and apply Ok.

Adaptive brightness is another windows 7 feature to aid users eye health. To protect users eye from high resolution, adaptive brightness feature, adjust the brightness level as per the ambient light level.
If the ambient light level increases, the screen brightness increases and if it gets low, the screen brightness decreases.
Light sensors are needed to enable adaptive brightness functions in windows 7.
To enable adaptive brightness,
Control panel – power options – change plan settings – change advanced power settings

In change advanced power settings tab, enable adaptive brightness mode. You can see this option only when the light sensors are connected to your system.
Click apply and ok.

The functions of task manager is to monitor the applications, processes, services, CPU performance and current user of the system.
As default only five columns are displayed in task manager, but you can include more tab to check more operations.
To include more tabs, open task manager – click view – select coloums where you can select the columns which you want to include.
List of coloums and its descriptions,
* PID (Process Identifier): An unique ID number assigned by Windows to every process which helps processor to identify each process separately.
* User Name: The user account under which the process is running.
* Session ID: It is used to identify the owner of the process in case if multiple users are logged on, each user has its own unique session ID.
* CPU Usage: The percentage of time that a process used the CPU.
* CPU Time: The total processor time, in seconds, used by a process since it started.
* I/O Reads: The number of read input/output operations generated by the process, including file, network, and device I/Os. I/O Reads directed to CONSOLE (console input object) handles aren’t counted.
* I/O Writes: The number of write input/output operations generated by the process, including file, network, and device I/Os. I/O Writes directed to CONSOLE (console input object) handles aren’t counted.
* I/O Other: The number of input/output operations generated by the process that are neither a read nor a write, including file, network, and device I/Os. An example of this type of operation is a control function. I/O Other operations directed to CONSOLE (console input object) handles aren’t counted.
* I/O Read Bytes: The number of bytes read in input/output operations generated by the process, including file, network, and device I/Os. I/O Read Bytes directed to CONSOLE (console input object) handles aren’t counted.
* I/O Write Bytes: The number of bytes written in input/output operations generated by the process, including file, network, and device I/Os. I/O Write Bytes directed to CONSOLE (console input object) handles aren’t counted.
* I/O Other Bytes: The number of bytes transferred in input/output operations generated by the process that are neither a read nor a write, including file, network, and device I/Os. An example of this type of operation is a control function. I/O Other Bytes directed to CONSOLE (console input object) handles aren’t counted.
* Memory Working Set: Amount of memory in the private working set and shared by the other processes.
* Memory Peak Working Set: Maximum amount of working set memory used by the process.
* Memory Working Set Delta: Amount of change in working set memory used by the process.
* Memory Private Working Set: Subset of working set that specifically describes the amount of memory a process is using that can’t be shared by other processes.
* Memory Commit Size: Amount of virtual memory that’s reserved for use by a process.
* Memory Paged Pool: Amount of pageable kernel memory allocated by the kernel or drivers on behalf of a process. Pageable memory is memory that can be written to another storage medium, such as the hard disk.
* Memory Non-paged Pool: Amount of non-pageable kernel memory allocated by the kernel or drivers on behalf of a process. Non-pageable memory is memory that can’t be written to another storage medium.
* Page Faults: The number of page faults generated by a process since it was started. A page fault occurs when a process accesses a page of memory that’s not currently in its working set.
* Page Fault Delta: The change in the number of page faults since the last update.
* Base Priority: A precedence ranking that determines the order in which the threads of a process are scheduled.
* Handles: The number of object handles in a process object table.
* Threads: The number of threads running in a process.
* USER Objects: The number of USER objects currently being used by the process. A USER object is an object from Window Manager, which includes windows, menus, cursors, icons, hooks, accelerators, monitors, keyboard layouts, and other internal objects.
* GDI Objects: The number of objects from the Graphics Device Interface (GDI) library of application programming interfaces (APIs) for graphics output devices.
* Image Path Name: The location of the process on the hard disk.
* Command Line: The full command line specified to create the process.
* User Account Control (UAC) Virtualization: Identifies whether User Account Control (UAC) virtualization is enabled, disabled, or not allowed for this process. UAC virtualization redirects file and registry write failures to per-user locations.
* Description: The description of the process. It helps beginners to identify the process easily.
* Data Execution Prevention: Whether data execution prevention is enabled or disabled for this process.

To use your laptop portably for many hours, you need to have more charge to travel with you! But it can stand only for 5-6 hours when it is fully charged.
To extend battery life for more hours, here are some ways to conserve the battery power and to use it efficiently.
1.You can change the power plan to ‘Power saver’ mode. To do that go to control panel – power options.

In balanced mode, conserves power when it is idle.
In Power saver mode, decreases the performance and brightness of the display to conserve power while operating.

2.You can also conserve the battery power, by customizing the display to turn dim and off when it is not in use.
To customize the display, go to control panel – power plan – more power options.

3.The devices such as USB mouse, PC cards and wireless devices connected also utilizes some power, you can conserve the battery power by turning off those devices. You can use the touch pad instead of a mouse to extend the battery life.
You can turn off those devices in windows mobility center. To open windows mobility center, start – mobility center.

If you want to change your windows 7 display which is convenient for you to view, then you can rotate the display by using the shortcut,
Ctrl+Alt+arrow keys to rotate,
Using this shortcut key, you can rotate your display both in laptop or tablet PC

When your system shutdown suddenly due to power failure or you turned off it without closing any current program, will affect your system settings. Next time when your restart your system, it may get stuck or hard to recover any last program.

To avoid that, your system will show you some advanced boot option when you restart, one of the boot option is ‘last known good configuration’. Last Known Good Configuration stores important system and registry every time you turn your computer off and Windows shuts down successfully.

To run system in ‘last known good configuration’ mode,
1.Remove all external hard disk, CD etc and restart your system.
2.Press F8 immediately when your start restarting before the windows logo appears.
3.Select your operating system and boot option ‘last known good configuration’.

Now your system run which registry files stored when it was turned off successfully.

Windows 7 has default windows explorer icon shortcut to open library files. You can make that explorer icon to open your favourite instead of default library folders.
To do that click on that icon – right click on windows explorer – properties – shortcut.

In shortcut tab, insert the link of folder which you want to open as default in target location.
After inserting the folders link or you can also insert the desired drive you want to open, click apply.
It will open your desired folder whenever you click that icon after applying it.
